Fishing

It helps to have a few fishing implements in your kit… Fish is a great way to get sustainable food.

My kit includes:

  1. 10+ Fish hooks.
  2. 5-10 Flies… This way you dont need to find bait… But real bait seems to work a lot better.
  3. Nail clippers so you can clip line easily and safely.
  4. Fishing line (10-20lb strength) just in case you catch a monster… You can use the inner strands of 550 paracord also.
  5. Some lead weights to get the hook to a good spot.
  6. A couple small spinners.
  7. “Yo Yo” style automatic fishing reel (trap) – These you can tie to a tree above the water and have the hook dangle in the water… You can then leave it while you go look for other food or supplies… When a fish bites… The spring loaded reel will set the hook and  pull the fish clean out of the water… Check your trap later on and see if you have a fish. Not a lot of work for a good meal.

* You can also use the Yo Yo as a trip wire to alert you if animals or other dangers are in your camp… Just clip on a couple cans or anything that will make noise to the end and then when something trips it it will make a ton of noise and either scare them away or at least alert you when and where they are.
